The little cabin is ideally located about nine miles from the west entrance making it easy for you to use as your base for exploring the wonders of Glacier National Park. The Blackfoot Cabin is 15 minutes from breathtaking Lake McDonald, where you can fill your day with recreational boating (rentals available), swimming, or photographing the range of mountain peaks that frame the lake. From there you are a few minute’s walks from the town of Apgar, where you can grab a morning coffee, or ice cream, enjoy the offerings of the café, or shop in the gift shops. Once you arrive in the park you are connected to miles of paved trails leading into the town of West Glacier (about 3 miles away), so you’ll have ample opportunities for easy hiking and mountain biking too.
If relaxing at the log cabin is your idea of a vacation getaway, you can just hang out on the porch, enjoy the outdoor fire pit, BBQ up some lunch, take a stroll and pick huckleberries, or curl up out the back porch and read a book, or just rest, relax and enjoy the beauty of the little orchard and mountain air. Plan to drive the 52-mile Going to Sun Road for a host of photographic and hiking options. The owners are happy to recommend guides for horseback riding, white water rafting, helicopter tours, fly-fishing, and other recreational activities too.
If you are not interested in driving, once you are at Lake McDonald you are only a short walk from the Apgar transportation center where you can enjoy a ride on the historic Glacier Red Cars or take the free shuttle bus throughout the Park. A week simply won’t be enough time to enjoy all that Blackfoot Glacier Cabin and Glacier National Park have to offer. Blackfoot Glacier is the second largest of the remaining 25 glaciers in Glacier National Park, Montana. Blackfoot Glacier is just to the north of Blackfoot Mountain and near Jackson Glacier.
