The cabin is just a 2-minute walk to the Lake Superior beach, and 10 minutes from Grand Marais. The cabin has backyard access to the Superior hiking trail and backs onto Superior National Forest. This primitive build has a natural way of connecting its guests to the simple pleasures of simpler times. Enjoy first-hand the awe-inspiring vistas, sunrises, long lingering sunsets, relaxation, and unpretentious hospitality of this vacation cabin retreat.
Patagonia Cabin was crafted by local polar explorer Lonnie Dupre and the owners. At just over 300 square feet this cabin is both quaint and spacious boasting an open floor plan and cathedral ceiling. Built for travelers seeking a retreat in a sustainable stay, the owners designed this cabin to offer all the necessities one would need in the thoughtfulness of nature with solar power for lighting and charging electronics, a gas fireplace and stove, an A-frame outhouse, rain barrels for wash water and an outdoor bucket shower. The inspiration for Patagonia Cabin came from their time spent living in Argentina, which is where their story together began. They hope that travelers can enjoy the same serenity from nature in this rustic refuge that their journey’s brought them.
The interior of the cabin has been thoughtfully curated with unique decor from Patagonia, Argentina, and local Grand Marais artists. Inside you’ll find a purple premium mattress, dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, kettle, and all the necessities for cooking. The cabin also has linens and towels, a gas fireplace, a 2 burner gas stove, drinking water in jugs, ground coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. Outside there are 2 pairs of snowshoes, a fire pit, a propane grill (for summer use only), a hammock, and an outdoor bucket shower. Guests have access to the entire cabin, grill, fire pit, deck, private parking, and large wooded yard backing the Superior National Forest. The recreational activities at the cabin include beach combing, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, fat biking, snowmobiling, and more.
You will want to note that the cabin is an off-grid cabin that was meant to be used as a rustic vacation retreat. With that in mind, it may not be for everyone, especially with an outdoor bucket shower, and an outhouse. The bed is located in the high loft which can only be accessed by a steep ladder. Guests use at their own risk. The cabin does not have wifi and only some cell signals. The cabin is completely off-grid with solar-powered lighting and charging, plumbing free, and an outhouse.
